Darnborough Gate

The property is a mid terrace house, with accommodation over three floors in a sought after area of Ripon.

Our client was looking to add floor space to the ground floor to increase the kitchen and entertaining part of their home.

The brief was to review the existing ground floor layout and provide a design creating a larger kitchen dining and living space without using too much of the garden. The extension size was carefully considered so as to maintain a good sized garden.

The use of fully glazed doors to the rear elevation allows for light to flow into the kitchen dining space, with the roof to include roof lights increasing the light into a potentially darker area once the extension is added.

The original house has a balcony to the first floor off the living room. The new pitched roof will connect to the existing brick walling creating a barrier to the balcony. There is an opportunity to make the first floor balcony area a more usable space by creating a more private space by screening the balcony area.

The client was keen to have an entertaining space for their family, with new kitchen featuring an island. The dining area needed to be large enough to fit a circular dining table with chairs for at least 6 spaces. The kitchen is the heart of the home, it is important for all members of the family to spend time in the same space. The area creating a space to watch TV was also incorporated into the design, with the option of this fitting into the corner of the kitchen.
