Who We Are
Michael Stephenson is a chartered surveyor with a degree in Building Surveying. As well as being a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors he is also a RICS Registered Valuer. Since qualifying over 20 years ago he has worked in residential and commercial property initially in building control. He then moved to North Yorkshire and joined a long established property estate agency and livestock market business. His role initially was as a chartered surveyor working across Yorkshire carrying out architectural design work, building surveying and professional valuation. After a short time he was promoted to General Manager and Company Secretary.
He set up in business with Georgina Buchanan MRICS and Deborah Mitchell, of Buchanan Mitchell at the beginning of 2022. He specialises in architectural design work, producing drawings for planning and building regulation approval, carrying out a full range of building surveys and professional valuation work.
The experience of estate agency and property valuation with architecture, and building surveying combines to provide a trusted team. BMS can give you the advice you need at the right time.

Buchanan Mitchell Stephenson provides a full range of property related advice from commencement to completion. This involvement with clients can begin with a pre purchase building survey including valuation, then provide full architectural drawings for refurbishment and extension work, with the added information of estimated building work costings and valuation.
Our client’s need to know the answers to a great number of questions, however the most significant revolves around costings, budget and valuation. We can offer the advice of what potential work could be carried out, the estimated cost of the project and provide an opinion of the estimated end value following completion of the work. This initial advice provides clients the information to make informed decisions without having to deal with several other professionals.
Clients can simply use us for whichever service they need, whether that is a professional valuation, building survey or architectural design service, or a combination of what we can offer.
We regularly provide a building survey report on a property purchase and then provide architectural design for an extension, submit a planning application and gain building regulation approval for a client.
