Dale Cottages

3 Dale Cottages is located in the village of Brandsby, near the Howardian Hills, south of the North York Moors.

The property is a stone built traditional Yorkshire cottage, with a large rear garden.

Our client wanted to alter the layout internally and create a new extension to replace an existing extension. The clients have recently moved back to North Yorkshire after living in the Netherlands. The contrast of the rolling Hambleton hills to the flat lands of Holland can be seen beautifully looking out over the rear garden of 3 Dale Cottages.

The existing house is a stone built cottage with lots of character and a homely feel, so soon after recently moving into the house. The original property has a rear extension which includes an extension of the kitchen, a small boiler room/utility and a room which is not defined. The brief was to produce a design to the rear of the property to increase the size of the kitchen dining area and accommodate a ground floor bedroom. A ground floor bedroom with en suite facilities would allow for an elderly relative to visit and stay, but also to future proof the property so that there is an opportunity to live all on one level if required.

The solution was to remove the existing extension, extend out past the original extension, move the utility room over to be adjacent to the kitchen and have the bedroom to the opposite side to the kitchen dining space. The extended kitchen dining space would look out over the large garden with a raised terraced area to connect with the outside space.
